Intel Audio Display Driver issue with Windows 10 version 1809: How to fix it

To ensure a seamless experience, we are blocking devices from being offered Windows 10 version 1809, until updated Intel device drivers are installed on your current operating system. We recommend that you do not attempt to manually update to Windows 10, version 1809, using the Update Now button or the Media Creation Tool from the Microsoft Software Download Center until newer Intel device drivers are available with the update. You can either wait for newer drivers to be installed automatically through Windows Update or check with your computer manufacturer for the latest device driver software availability and installation procedures. For more information about this issue, see Intel's customer support guidance.

Description of issueAfter updating to Windows 10, version 1809, audio playback from a monitor or television connected to a computer via HDMI, USB-C, or a display port may not function correctly on devices with Intel Graphics driver versions 24.20.100.6344, 24.20.100.6345, and 24.20.100.6346. However, these three Intel Graphics driver versions were only made available for a short time to a limited number of computer manufacturers and these versions were not posted in Download Center or in the Intel Driver and Support Assistant, so please confirm which Intel Graphics Driver is installed on your computer before taking any action.

Intel Audio Display Driver issue with Windows 10 version 1809

While we expect that these driver versions have not been implemented widely, we are working with Microsoft to address this issue, including an update for computer manufacturers that include a newer Intel Graphics driver version.

Microsoft emphasizes this issue is different from the one affecting the Intel Smart Sound Technology (ISST) Driver, which again was inadvertently released by Intel and caused problems with audio on Windows 10 1809 and 1803 PCs.

Before halting the Windows 10 1809 update due to the data-deletion bug, Microsoft was blocking the update for devices with certain versions of an Intel Audio Display device driver. That issue was over-utilizing the processor and draining the battery.

Last week Microsoft blocked the Windows 10 1809 update for PCs with iCloud for Windows due to an incompatibility issue. The company is also working on a fix for a known issue affecting mapped drives, which it expects to deliver by the end of November.

As I have researched the error code. Windows has prevented the update previously due to a known compatibility issue with the Intel display audio driver. This driver is linked with the Intel Graphics Driver. See a few articles on the issue.

My Task Sequence to upgrade older versions of Windows 10 to version 1809 is failing due to an incompatible driver. What people are doing for updating drivers using SCCM and how to create collections to target devices with the drivers that need updating. Is there any way to install a whole driver package on an existing device?

[German]Another addendum to fixed issues in Windows 10 version 1903/1909, which led to upgrade blockades. Microsoft has fixed issues with some Realtek Bluetooth drivers, and unstable WiFi connections in Qualcomm drivers, and an audio driver bug has also been fixed.

Microsoft has identified compatibility issues with some driver versions for Bluetooth radios made by Realtek. To safeguard your update experience, we have applied a compatibility hold on devices with affected driver versions for Realtek Bluetooth radios from being offered Windows 10, version 1903 or Windows Server, version 1903 until the driver has been updated.

The issue affected Windows 10 version 1903 and also version 1909, as well as the server variants. Microsoft states as of November 15, 2019 that this issue has been resolved with an updated driver for the affected Realtek Bluetooth adapter. The upgrade blocker for Windows 10 versions 1903 and 1909 has been removed.

Microsoft states that this issue has been resolved with an updated Qualcomm Wifi driver. An updated Wi-Fi driver should be available from the device manufacturer (OEM). The upgrade blocker was removed on November 22, 2019.

Microsoft and Intel had already identified a problem with a number of Intel display audio device drivers in May 2019. This problem resulted in increased battery power consumption. Microsoft had stopped an upgrade for affected devices. Users attempting to upgrade to Windows 10, version 1903, received an intcdaud.sys notification if the affected Intel Audio Display device driver (intcdaud.sys, versions 10.25.0.3 to 10.25.0.8) was installed on the computer. The upgrade stopper also applied to Windows 10 version 1809..

Microsoft states that this issue was resolved as of November 12, 2019 with an updated Windows driver. The upgrade blockade has therefore been removed. If you still have upgrade problems, you should request a new driver from the OEM.

Anyone who does professional audio work would be jobless. These are serious issues. It's physically impossible to stream low-latency studio-quality sound from a machine in the "cloud". If Microsoft wants to sell only toy operating systems, that's fine. Just let us know so everyone can move to Linux and be done with it.

since the 1909 update i ve had no sound from my laptop for over a month everything else works but no sound. so with the lockdown i cant use my laptop to communicate.have tried everything from using trouble shooters, changing realtek drivers, resetting all audio. constant updates from MS even contacting MS itself but no luck and no help. ive reset and updated everything and still no joy. prior to 1903/1909 updates never had an issue. If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated as i hate no being able to communicate.

Microsoft fixed a known issue impacting a range of Intel Display Audio device drivers (versions 10.25.0.3 through 10.25.0.8) that was found to be causing problems leading to higher than normal battery drain on devices running Windows 10 1903 and Windows 10 1809.

This known issue causing abnormal battery drain on Windows 10 devices with Intel Display Audio device drivers has now been resolved with updated drivers from Intel or the devices' manufacturers (OEMs).

Microsoft has now confirmed at least one compatibility issue with a "range of Intel Display Audio device drivers" that could result in "excessive processor demand and reduced battery life." The update to Windows 10 October 2018 Update will fail due to this issue.

As shared with our readers earlier, the broader Windows 10 1809 rollout will begin next week. Until then, users are highly recommended to avoid manually installing Windows 10 October 2018 Update on their machines. The company has asked users not to "attempt to manually update to Windows 10, version 1809, using the Update Now button or the Media Creation Tool from the Microsoft Software Download Center until newer Intel device drivers are available with the update." Microsoft says it will make the update available to PCs when they are ready for it.

Windows 10 updated from 1803 to 1809. At that point, my second monitor was displaying at a wrong resolution. I went to the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel App. My saved profile which had been working was there, so I attempted to apply it. This caused some type of glitch and I got a blue screen with a happy face while the PC attempted to repair.

I have tried this method - NOT CONNECTED to internet, uninstall and remove driver files for the "Display Adapter", "Monitor", and "Sound, video, and game controllers". So I ended up with the basic or standard MS drivers only. Neither HDMI nor displayport worked with only the MS drivers. My UNSUCCESSFUL 4 attempts (CLEAN back to MS each time):

I am still unclear on whether WIndows 10 1809 new driver type standard (DCH/DCHU/Universal) means that any items without new style drivers simply cease to function?! I have asked on WIndows 10 forums as well.

I have not a clue how to update firmware on TV or monitors. I did at one point, go back to the Ockel provided driver version, and it did not resolve the issues. I had actually been running with the later Intel driver (Intel DSA installed) AOK for several weeks prior to the Windows update.

The company says, the fix for the issue already included in Intel Display Audio driver version 10.25.0.10 that was bundled with Intel Graphics driver version 24.20.100.6286 and later already includes workaround. You just need to ensure that you have this Intel Graphics version.

The Intel drive battery drain issue has an impact on both client and server Windows 10, version 1809 and 1903 platforms. A series of Intel Display Audio device drivers (versions 10.25.0.3 through 10.25.0.8) are discovered to experience an unexpected battery drain on a series of devices (the battery drain of them is higher than normal).

Synaptics and Microsoft have found incompatibility issues with certain versions of drivers for Conexant or Synaptics audio devices and Windows 10, version 2004 (the Windows 10 May 2020 Update). Windows 10 devices with affected Conexant or Synaptics audio drivers might receive a stop error with a blue screen during or after updating to Windows 10, version 2004. The affected driver will be named Conexant HDAudio Driver under Sound, video and game controllers in Device Manager and have versions 8.65.47.53, 8.65.56.51, or 8.66.0.0 through 8.66.89.00 for chdrt64.sys or chdrt32.sys.

Intel released display driver (versions 24.20.100.6344, 24.20.100.6345) in September. After updating to Windows 10, version 1809, audio playback may not function correctly on devices with these drivers.

In addition to this Windows 10 rerelease, upgrades to Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server version 1809 (the "semiannual channel" version of the product) were resumed on Wednesday, too, according to information added to the "Windows 10 and Windows Server 2019 Update History" page. This history page now includes more descriptive information about Microsoft's OS releases, including when Microsoft may be blocking a release due to software flaws, bad drivers or application incompatibility issues. 2ff7e9595c
