It's not often a press release arrives by hand, locked in a safe, with an emoji-encoded password to crack to unlock and find the goods within. But that's the tact Huawei has taken with its latest tease of the 'next Huawei', widely believed to be the Mate 20 Pro.

Huawei tease with .. 7 Mates

The Mate series from Huawei is the brand's pinnacle of fully-loaded, high-end smartphones with all the bells and whistles. Huawei is preparing to make a comeback with the Mate 50 lineup after the launch of the Mate 40 series two years ago and has now announced a launch date. The latest teaser suggests that the Mate 50 series will still work even if the battery is totally drained.

Huawei recently teased the Mate 50 series with a variable aperture rear camera setup. It is said to allow users to have more control over capturing images. The vanilla Huawei Mate 50 was earlier tipped to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, coupled with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. It is also tipped to sport a 6.28-inch to 6.56-inch OLED display with full-HD resolution and 90Hz refresh rate.

Huawei recently posted a video teaser online of its upcoming P40 series flagship, which all but confirmed that the phones will have a curved screen and what looks like a massive camera bump. The launch of the P40 handsets will mark Huawei's third and latest flagship launch since the US slapped the Chinese telecom giant with an export ban last May. But until official announcements are made in late March, we leave you the with the most credible rumors of the much-awaited trio of devices, the Huawei P40, P40 Pro and P40 Pro Premium.
